Palangka Raya’s Outskirts Are Prone to Fires
The outskirts of Palangka Raya are indeed dominated by peatlands. During the dry season, this area inevitably catches fire, and the fires always cover vast areas. The smoke from these fires contributes to the air quality being classified as hazardous. Although the flames appear to be extinguished, the smoke rising to the surface indicates that the fire in the underlying peat layer is still burning, as seen on Friday (October 16, 2026). This situation must be monitored constantly.
